Ruth Roman is the youngest child born to Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. When she was young the father was a carnival barker which left Ruth's mother no option but to work as a cleaning woman and waitress to provide for the family. Ruth was raised in the poorest neighborhood in Boston Massachusetts in which she went to high school. However, she was only in the school for two years, before taking a break to pursue her acting profession. There were many hurdles to overcome on the path she chose to pursue. When she was in New York she was hired to take photos for a magazine about crime however, no theatre opportunities were offered. Then, after a period as a hat-wearing club girl after which she decided to come back home and quit her position. The city of Boston was where she worked during the night as an actor with New England Repertory Company and for the remainder of her time, was an usherette. She completed her studies at Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she was a drama student.
